WHY STRONGER PLAYERS GET INJURED LESS
Why Stronger Players Get Injured Less
Strength is often viewed as a performance quality.
And it is.
Stronger players are generally faster, more powerful and more difficult to stop.
But strength provides another benefit that is often overlooked:
Resilience.
Think Of Strength As Armour
Rugby places huge demands on the body.
Every match involves:
• Sprinting
• Decelerating
• Accelerating
• Changing direction
• Contact
• Repeated collisions
The stronger your body is, the better it can tolerate those demands.
Stronger Muscles. Stronger Tissues.
Strength training doesn’t just build muscle.
It also helps develop:
• Tendons
• Ligaments
• Bones
• Connective tissue
These structures help absorb force and protect the body during training and competition.
Strength Doesn’t Make You Injury-Proof
Nothing does.
Injuries are part of sport.
However, strength training can significantly improve your ability to tolerate load.
Think about two players:
Player A avoids the gym because they’re worried about injury.
Player B consistently strength trains throughout the year.
Who do you think is better prepared for the physical demands of rugby?
The Goal
The goal isn’t to avoid hard training.
The goal is to become robust enough to handle it.
Build strength.
Build resilience.
Build confidence.
This Week’s Action
Add one unilateral exercise to your next gym session.

• Step Up
• Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat
Small improvements repeated consistently lead to big results.
Stay patient.
Stay consistent.
Stay available.
